The National Childcare Scheme (NCS) is coming soon!

The Department of Children and Youth Affairs new child care scheme will launch in October 2019.

What is the new scheme?

The new scheme is being launched to provide financial support for families with

children between 24 weeks and 15 years attending a Tusla registered service

towards the cost of childcare.

What will happen to the existing childcare programmes?

From October the new scheme will replace all previous targeted childcare

programmes, such as TEC, CCSP/CCSU schemes. For now the existing

programmes will continue to operate until the launch of the new scheme and

applications for these programmes can be made up until October 2019. No new

applications for the existing schemes will be available after the National Childcare

Scheme opens. In October families can choose to switch to the new scheme

immediately or remain on their existing programme at that time for one final

programme year.

The ECCE (Early Childhood Care & Education) programme will not be affected.

What supports are available for families under the new NCS scheme?

There will be two types of supports available under the scheme; a Universal Subsidy

(not means tested) and an Income Assessed Subsidy (means tested).

How do I apply for the scheme?

Applications for the scheme will be required to be made online at www.ncs.gov.ie

closer to the launch date.

What can I do now?

To make an online application you will need to have a verified MyGovID which you

can apply for now on www.mygovid.ie
