February was cold, wet and stormy, but it was full of fun activities and a fantastic atmosphere in our crèche in Seabrook Manor.

Our children have learned so much through our events and monthly themes carried out in February. It has been a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for people we love during the course of the month, with our St Valentines Day themed activities.

We also learned lots about the life cycle of various inserts and animals, such as frogs and butterflies.

Just a note to say that our baby rooms are nearing capacity in all of our creches for 2020 so we would like to advise any parents that might be expecting and if you require any sibling places, please enrol as soon as possible. Application forms are available from us (Creche Managers) or you can also contact Kim from our Admissions Team on kim.jones@linkschildcare.ie.

The next newsletter for Seabrook Manor will be the April issue. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy reading the February newsletter and check out some pictures from the month.

Best Wishes,

Baby Room News

It’s lovely to welcome our new babies Liza, Sadie, Elena, Alex, Naoise! And we celebrated Lexi and Sophie Birthdays!

We have celebrated different events this month, but the most special day was Valentine´s day, we made a card for the parents to tell how much our babies love them! In that day also we were giving hugs and kisses to other babies and they enjoyed it!

Another date to celebrate was space day, in which our babies made their own Stellar space. We put different colour paint in a big paper in the floor and they were painting, some of them with the brush, another with the hands, with the feet, etc…

However, we were making activities in relation with the spring, the colours and the flowers. We Were doing lot of messy play with water and flowers, in which they could explore with their senses and showing pictures about flowers and colours, through reading books and saying words helping them to develop their minds. We sing a lot too, they love songs and it helps to distract them.

Also, we were mixing colours, and discovering how they change when we mixed them. We made a game in which the babies had a blue ball, a red one, and a yellow one and hit it in their respective coloured bottles, it was so funny because any object they found they hit it inside the bottles, but they looked so interesting to discover how they could take it out.

Wobbler Room News

All our wobbler children have been kept very busy during the month of February. Here is a weekly summary of what we got up to.

We have used some paper flowers to stamp paint on paper a create our own colourful flowers to decorate our classroom.

We have painted the petals of a big flower using primary colours, and we have tried to sort balls on its petals depending on their colour.

Painting petals was fun, and our teachers put them together to create colourful flowers to decorate our door. They also wrote a poem on the door and we like to hear it every time we go outside!

It was a put rainy during the month, so we stayed in and worked on our gross motor skills a lot in our movement zone! We also made a flower for mummy/daddy and left them at the door, so they were very happy when they came to pick us up.

We have been celebrating Maths Day! We have been working with shapes (triangle, square and circle), we have been counting objects and colouring numbers 1, 2 and 3!

We have used forks to stamp flowers using the colours we chose. We have also been dancing a lot. We had a lot of fun!

We have stamped our hands with green paint on a paper to make a cactus. Then, we have used our fingers to make the flowers.

We have started working colours! We have all chosen a colour to decorate our big palette on the wall. We have enjoyed a lot the “rainbow song” that our educarers have sung. We asked them to sing it again and again!

We have painted plates using 10 different colours. Later, we sorted some objects depending on their colour using those plates. It was a bit difficult, but some of us have started to understand it.

We celebrated love, for Saint Valentine’s Day and that is the reason why we came dressed in red or pink. We have made some cards to express our families how much we love them.

We have been sorting our building blocks into different recipients, attending their colours.

We are starting to learn the name of some colours, and we have mixed the primary colours to obtain purple, orange and green. We loved this activity!

We have been stamping shapes using different colours. We loved the heart shape, and we all wanted to use it!

As spring is approaching, we have stamped some painted plastic insects on paper. We have also started decorating a rocket for tomorrow!

Friday 21st: Today we have celebrated Space Day! We have been using our rocket, singing songs, painting planets and we have used special playdough with glitter. It looked like a galaxy!

WEEK 4: From 24th to 28th February SPRING

Monday 24th: Spring is coming! The weather today was good so we have enjoyed some time in the garden. We have also painted some butterflies to decorate our classroom.

Tuesday 25th: We have made a snail using a plate. We have also worked on the concepts of slowly (like the snail) and quickly (like the mouse).

Wednesday 26th: We have painted some ladybirds to decorate our classroom. We enjoyed painting their spots!

Thursday 27th: We have planted some lentils and beans, using water, cotton and yoghourt recipients. We’ll have to wait to see how they grow!

Friday 28th: It is Bubble Day! We have enjoyed playing with bubbles, and some of us have even learnt how to blow bubbles without help.

This month in wobbler 2 we have learnt all about flowers and had so much fun creating our own flowers in the class.

We had lots of fun playing with the musical instruments in the room and creating music. Making our own instruments and our very own little musical band was so much fun and we loved singing songs in different voice and tonnes and using the instruments to make songs up.

We also had great fun celebrating Valentine’s Day and having our little picnic dates in the class with our friends to celebrate the day. We have had great fun with our mini PE classes we have been using the rainbow parachute to make little tents and for running under which we have had great fun with.

We have created play dough with different colours and have added scents to it to make it interesting for the children and to explore their senses and creating different colours for our themes each week. We have been dressing up exploring our likes and dislikes as we have many varieties, and some are more popular than others which the children are very vocal in telling us and showing us which costumes are their favourites. The children seemed to have a great time this month and have showed a great interest in the activities and have made us laugh a lot this month with their little personalities.

Toddler Room News

Our toddlers love painting, and for their Transport learning, they were painting cars with sponges to decorate their classroom. We also painted pedestrians crossing the road and bikes too. It was nice to enhance our learning of transport through our works of art.

Colours is something that our toddlers love learning all about. They see them everywhere. Through art, we did lots of painting, and created a yellow Monster for sensorial play. The next day, we painted a rainbow and circles with our fingers, using a lot of different colours.

For our maths activities and games, we use different materials for learning our numbers.

With the spring season, we have loved learning all about flowers and we painted tulips and roses with our fingers. We are also learning how to use paint brushes too and gluing our leaves onto our trees that we painted.

Caterpillars and butterflies have become a growing interest to our children, and they have loved learning about them and how they grow. We painted ladybirds and made flowers with pompoms to add to our garden for our butterflies to explore and grow.

Preschool Room News

Happy Birthdays to Conor, Evie, Tadgh!

In Preschool 1, we started February working on the Butterfly’s and the Frog’s lifecycle. We started by talking about what we know about butterflies and made a poster all together showing the lifecycle and using materials from our room. We also painted our feet with different colours to make butterfly wings on paper, it was quite ticklish for some of our children but they truly enjoyed it! We also collected leaves and sticks from the garden to make a box where children could play with caterpillar toys and feed them to become butterflies. We also painted a pond to show the frog’s lifecycle and made funny frog masks. Furthermore, we discovered how oil and water cannot mix in science day!

Dinosaurs were another topic that truly interested children, and thus we spent a whole week working on them. As usual, we started by getting to know the children’s ideas about dinosaurs, and you would be surprised to see just how many things they already know about such incredible creatures! We took some of the dinosaur toys that we had around the room and painted their feet to see their footprints on paper. It was super fun to see just how different each dinosaur could be! We also made dinosaur-shaped biscuits that children were delighted to both prepare and eat. Linked to the topic, we decided to prepare a volcano as the experiment of the week. We took a box and put dinosaur toys inside, as well as a bottle with black paper around that children helped to paint. By mixing vinegar, bicarbonate soda and orange food colouring, children could see how fizz came out of the bottle and flooded the box! Some of them were very determined to save the dinosaurs.

Now that spring is almost here, children can stay longer playing at the garden, and one of the games they enjoy the most is football. Thus, we also decided to work on the topic of sports. We painted different sports balls with our fingers and with bubble wrapping paper and brought big balls at the garden to practice their kicking and throwing skills. Moreover, we made our own football pitches with boxes so that they could play with bottle caps. On that week it was also Space Day, and it was so much fun to paint our own space rockets and create planets together!

In Preschool 2, we learned about theatre, shadows and favourite character day.
We were having chats about what we think is a theatre, how we can make shadows and we made curtains for our theatre display. Children were encouraged to draw their favourite character or scene from their favourite movie.

Dance class with Kim was lots of fun and very active too.
We hung up sheets and with the help of a torch we try to make shadows. We make our own puppets and children even brought in from home their favourite puppets, so we have enjoyed lots of puppet show. We did different messy play with sand, water and play dough and we had a lovely dress up day, where the children could dress up in their favourite characters, and we had a disco party.

Our children discovered that dinosaurs and construction are a great playing combination and we were brainstorming about dinosaurs and enjoying all the chats about it. Children were invited to bring in their dinosaurs’ books and they loved showing them off to their friends.
For our arts and crafts, we made dinosaurs feet stamps and we made our own dinosaurs bones out of salt dough, painted them and hid them in the sand and play palaeontologists.
Our Activity Street was filled with the lovely smell of cookies, as we baked dinosaur shaped biscuits. We even learned some Spanish words for dinosaurs too.
For our math day we did some counting of dinosaurs bones which we found hiding in the sand.

Life cycle of a frog, butterflies and Space Day was all enjoyed too by our children. They love learning and furthermore, they love learning through play.
