Tales from our Toddler Room

April has been a very busy month for our Toddler Room!

This month´s long term curriculum consisted of the following topics: Easter, the moon and Fairy Tales.

Easter has been the main event this month and we have been colouring easter eggs with coloured pencils, painting some easter bunnies with paint by using our hands as well as cotton sticks. We did an easter egg hunt hiding some rabbits we made together using paper roll. We played with some brown playdoh and talked about the hot cross buns.

On the 8th of April it was Space Day, so we made the most of it and we created our own spaceship using some boxes and we painted it and added windows! We had a great time playing around the class with it. We also made some moons and earths using plates and sticking coloured paper bits. We made some spaceship hands and created alien hats which we absolutely adored.

Regarding the topic Fairy Tales we have been reading a lot of books, created castles from our hands, fairy wands, roses, crowns and a lot of role-plays has been going on.

We have also been working on our short-term curriculum topics: Jobs, Insects, Transports and Members of our family.

We talked about chefs, made some chef hats, pasta Bolognese and played loads with the food in our classroom. We learned about the doctors, made some x-rays using chalk, some doctor hats and boxes. We also learned about artists and we created a painter palette as well as some brushes. We talked about firemen and made some fire trucks with our feet and fireman with our hands and on Friday we learnt about musicians, creating some guitars and microphones.

The topic of insects was a success! We made the most of our garden, looking out for all the spiders we could see and we made loads of arts and crafts: ants, bees, butterflies, ladybirds, spiders.

Talking about transports has been a very fulfilling topic as we talked about the airplanes we see in the garden flying by, the cars our mommy’s and daddy’s have, the bikes we have. And we have been creating arts and crafts related to it. We made some cars, a stirring wheel, an airplane, a hot air balloon and a school bus.

Finally, the topic members of our family has been super fun as we have been looking at our family pictures, mentioning everyone in our family and telling stories about them.

We have integrated a routine on Mondays that includes music, dancing and singing as well as playing the instruments we have in the class. It is a very nice way of starting the week in a positive way and the kids have an amazing time!

We also played with our messy play tray which we filled up with sand and had a great time filling up bottles and hiding animals in the sand.
