Finally, the summer is here! The days are getting brighter and the evenings are getting longer too. With restrictions changing and
people able to meet extended family members outdoors, it feels like a very welcoming change.

Our children had such fun during our monthly events in May. They were so engaging and took a real interest in our curriculum topics.
We loved Firefighter Day, International Nurses Day and World Baking Day and for Rock N Roll Day, we had such fun dancing and
singing! We are delighted now have all our children back together. Each day is different and we make such it is jam packed with lots of
fun. Keep an eye out on our Social Media Channels for photos of our daily activities.
In this newsletter, we have shared some insight into the activities from each of our rooms that has taken place during the month of
May.
At the end of May, over 70 members from Team Links took part in a Links 10KM Fun Run, were over €2000 was raised for The Jack &
Jill Foundation. Thank you to you all for sponsoring and supporting us in raising these much needed funds for a very worthy cause.

Activities from our Baby Room

· Colours:
-Made a colour book
-They have a blue party; all were wearing blue clothes and sticked blue different materials on their book.
-They had a green party and coloured different pictures using green crayons
-They painted with red colour using hands and brushes and added it to their colour book.
-They stamped stickle bricks with yellow paint.
·Flowers:
-They made a sensory flower gluing different textures on each petal (feathers, tissue paper, shredded paper, paint,…)
-They glued tissue paper to make their own flower.
-Learnt a flower colour song using their colour book.
·Mr. Sun:
-Made a big big sun using different yellow materials.
-They discovered their shadows on a sunny day in the garden.
-Learnt 2 songs (English and Spanish) about the sun.
-They made their own puppet sun to bring home.
·Let’s do water play!:
-Tinted water using different colour tissue paper.
-They painted a big ice using a brush.
-They sang ‘Rain, rain go away’
-They painted the rain using their fingers.
·Mini beast:
-They made a spider puppet to bring home.
-They will read books and observe the mini beast colours.

 

 

 

 

Our Wobbler Room News

Spring:
-They painted flowers.
-They glued leaves on the tree.
-They also planted seeds and watered them.
-They learnt songs (in English and Spanish) about the
weather and spring)
-Learnt ‘Spring is here’ song.
Emotions:
-PWe ainted emoticons and play to copy faces (happy,
angry, surprised,…)
-Made faces in front of the mirror.
·Colours week:
-Sorted different paper colours in boxes.
-Sang ‘colours’ song
-Played to guess colours with the cubes from the room.
·Sports:
-Made a basket to play basketball with all their friends.
-Painted footballs using their fingers.
-Made medals for after the match.
-Did running races in the garden.
·Numbers week:
-We decorated 1 to 5 big numbers gluing small pieces of
tissue paper on them.
– We made paper hands to mark numbers with fingers and
our own numbers book to bring home.
– We also made Lego towers with 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 pieces.

 

 

 

Tales from our Toddler Room 

Tales and Stories:
-The 3 little pigs: They made their own book using different
materials (feathers, cotton, cardboard) to bring home (video
I sent you)
-They made a Sensory book: made clouds out of cotton,
sticks for trees, fish using foil, sun with glitter, net to make a
boat
-St Jordi’s Day (book Day in Barcelona (Spain)): They made
roses using tissue paper and a book mark to bring them
home.
·Blast off!:
-They made a big display board about it (painted stars,
splashed paint to make tiny planets, decorated big planets
with glitter, paper,… and learnt what a ‘Nebula’ is!
-They learnt different shapes (triangle, square, circle)
painted their favourite one and created a big rocket with
them.
-Made an alien out of their foot/feet print.
·Spanish week:
-Made their own Spanish dictionary to bring home and sang
using those words. (house/casa, red/rojo, yellow/Amarillo,
blue/azul, green/verde, cup/taza, hello/hola, bye/adios)
·Let’s play music!:
-Made shakers out of bottles.
-Played making drums using boxes.
-Learned different instruments names.

 

 

 

Pre-school Room News 

Spring animals- made a spring landscape, spring animals with footprints and spring flowers using flower shaped toys.

Transport- made our own car using carboard boxes and used them during role play, we learned about traffic safety and crossing the road, made trains with boxes, learned about different transport methods ie. planes, trains, boats.

Monsters and the big bad wolf (story)- we made wolf masks and role played the big bad wolf.

Friendship- we are going to talk all about how to be nice to our friends and make friendship activities.

Sun and moon- learning about the differences of daytime and night- time, we learned about the shape of the moon and how many moons there are and what they look like,
we learned how far away the moon and the sun are and why the sun is hot.

Singers- the children were very interested in learning about singers and what they need to be able to sing, we made microphones and had a singing competition.

Superhero’s- we all discussed who our favourite superheroes were, we made masks and role-played superhero’s, (Super woman, spider man, flash and
batman) we made a superhero circuit in the class. We read stories about PJ Masks and different super heros.

Explorers- we all became explorers for the day we looked for treasure and made explorer badges and gadgets, we looked for different insects in the garden and made
binoculars.

Wild animals- we pretended to be different animals in the jungle, made lions, we explored different habitats and what they looked like and what animals lived in them. We
played guess the animal by acting out different animals for our friends to guess. Made animal masks. We all told different stories and we have been reading different
books about animals (The ugly five, Giraffe on a bicycle and It began when I said yes) we made a jungle scene
with everything seen in the jungle and all the animals there, we dance to walking in the jungle and acted out different animals,

Spain, Portugal, Russia- we explored how we travel to all the different countries and we made passports for our travels, learned all about people in these countries what
they eat, their music. We also made each flag and roleplayed bull fighting. We made suitcases with all of the
travel essentials and we made different costumes from each country. We played different instruments while listening to typical music from each country.

Ocean animals- we learned about all the different animals, what they eat and how they survive and what they live in in the water.

Summer- what the weather is like in the summer, our plans for summer, what we wear and what we eat during the summer. And how we will spend this summer during
Covid. We learned why we need to wear sun cream and how it helps us when we’re in the sun. We made our favourite summer outfits and made drawings of people to
stick the clothes on. During free choice we made a picnic and discussed all of our favourite food to bring with us,
we made watermelon to bring with us on our picnic, we made smoothies and lemonade in arts and craft. We
practiced our cutting by making picnic menus by cutting pictures of food from magazines.

Me and my world- we loved watching our plants grow and taking care of them over

Beach- We made our own sensory beach and discussed what you would find there, we discussed what water safety and what we need to be careful of
on the beach. We discussed what food we might bring to the beach and how we would bring it there.
We made our favourite ice creams during arts and crafts.

Monuments of the world- We discussed some of the different monuments around the world looking at the pictures we discussed their shapes and what
makes them different and learned lots of different facts, we recreated some of the monuments using our STEM materials, we also made our own buildings
using paper and different art materials. We played a freeze game where we had to freeze as some of the
monuments we discussed.

Egypt- the children showed interest in the Egyptian pyramids and the deserts and camels, we learned
about camels where they live what they look like and what they eat, we learned all about the deserts and
its different features, we made pyramids during arts and crafts and also discussed what they are used for, we made Egyptian jewellery, we danced like an Egyptian during music time.

 

 

 

Naíscoil Room News 

Pirates- We made our own pirate ship, pirate hats, eye patches, treasure maps, treasure chest and telescopes so
we could find the treasure. We read lots of different pirate stories and discussed what way pirates speak. We
danced to pirate music and even had our own treasure
hunt using our treasure maps.

Under the sea- We learned all about the different animals that live in the sea, we learned lots of different animals in
irish (Iasc (fish), siorc (shark), míol mór (whale), deilf (dolphin), portán (crab), we made lots of different sea
creatures during arts and crafts (crabs, starfish, seahorse, jellyfish, shells) we made a beach and used our sand
shapes to make shells and some sea creatures.

Summer- We discussed what kind of weather we get during the summer (grianmhar) and what we would need
for the weather ie sun cream (úachtar gréinne, hat (hata), sandals (curán), tshirts (t-léine), Shorts ( bríste gear). We
discussed the beach and what we can do there, what we bring.

Fairy tales- We read stories about different fairytales and discussed what our favourite ones are, we made up our
own fairytales and made them into a small book with lots of different pictures we drew.

Songs- We have been learning some new irish songs during our irish time ( Bogha Báistí, Dhá éinnín beag) and
are really enjoying playing our irish bingo all about food and clothes.

 

 

 

 

After school Room Adventures

China- We made the magic Chinese door and typical Chinese flowers around it, we discussed differences between our
own culture and the Chinese culture, we discussed their clothing and how it is different or similar to our own and we
discussed the differences between food. We made typical Chinese hats and Chinese dolls.
We discussed what job we would like to do when we are older, where we would like to work and why. We discussed
different aspects of each job and what we would have to do there.
Summer – We discussed all about the summer, how we spend our summers and what different activities we do, we
discussed our favourite things to do during the summer. A lot of children loved talking about the beach and we took the
opportunity to learn all about beach safety, why beaches can be dangerous and what we can do to stay safe. We
discussed what we bring to the beach, what we wear and what we might eat. We made different arts and crafts to do with
summer, we made our own beaches/ summer scenes, beach balls, and picnics during arts and crafts.
