Finally, the summer is here! The days are getting brighter and the evenings are getting longer too. With restrictions changing and
people able to meet extended family members outdoors, it feels like a very welcoming change.

Our children had such fun during our monthly events in May. They were so engaging and took a real interest in our curriculum topics.
We loved Firefighter Day, International Nurses Day and World Baking Day and for Rock N Roll Day, we had such fun dancing and
singing! We are delighted now have all our children back together. Each day is different and we make such it is jam packed with lots of
fun. Keep an eye out on our Social Media Channels for photos of our daily activities.
In this newsletter, we have shared some insight into the activities from each of our rooms that has taken place during the month of
May.
At the end of May, over 70 members from Team Links took part in a Links 10KM Fun Run, were over €2000 was raised for The Jack &
Jill Foundation. Thank you to you all for sponsoring and supporting us in raising these much needed funds for a very worthy cause.

Activities from our Baby Room

Our babies emerging interests were our senses. They explored different sensory activities and they also explored 5 senses
through art, story time, music, rhymes, gluing and sticking.

We explored summer through art, and they made kite, ice cream, watermelon, and the Sun. They enjoyed painting and messy play.

We were also very interested in food and picnics as they seem to like playing in the home corner with our pretend food. They
are exploring different food through taste, art, flash cards. We also had a picnic in the
garden, which they all loved.

Our babies loved exploring with fruits and vegetables, healthy eating through art, play, taste, touch and story time.

Our Wobbler & Toddler Room News

For the first week of May, the theme in our Wobbler & Toddler Room was Summer. Children explored this theme through
a variety of different activities. They did glue sticking with paper, crepe paper and lollipops to create boats on the water.
Children used paint to make bees and fingerpainting to make ladybirds. They spent lots of time playing outside in the
fresh air. They also did some very messy play with kinetic sand. They pretended they were at the beach and even made
sandcastle.

For the second week of May, our theme was different sounds. They made different instruments that the children could
make sounds with themselves. This included: filling folded paper with rice and painting them to make shakers, gluing and
sticking with paper plates to make tambourines, painting small cardboard pieces and attaching foil to make clackers.
They also did some gluing and sticking to make xylophones, the children had to try and put the rainbow lollipop sticks in
the size order and in a straight line. They brought art outside too, colouring in pictures of the sounds they can hear while
playing in the garden. They also did flash cards (what sound does this make) and lots of singing, listening to music and
dancing.

For the third week in May our theme was Monsters. They created monsters in all sorts of different ways. They created
their own monster faces with a variety of sensory materials, they used straws to blow paint on a page and added eyes
and a mouth, they painted toilet roll holders with sensory paint (paint mixed with cotton wool and rice) and gluing and
sticking on a paper cups to create even more monsters. They also did a wide variety of sensory and messy play activities
this week. This included: finding the monster stuck in jelly, ice play with frozen monster hands, sticky monster gloop.
For the last week of May, our theme was our 5 senses. For this theme, we explored all our senses. For art, we mixed
different things in with paints and let them get creative. For example, we used sugar and oats for texture, essential oils
for smell and glitter for sight. We also got creative making our own scratch and sniff pictures. The children played with
scented playdough and did hot vs. cold water play. Out in the garden we used our listening ears to play musical statues.
We gave the children some different foods to taste, such as lemons. We also turned off the lights and used a torch to cast
different shadows on the wall.
