A Spring In Our Step

As we stepped into Spring at the start of February, it felt like there was a change in the air.
A change in the brightness of the day, with the evenings getting a little bit longer, and even a change in the growth around us, with the little peaks of
daffodils slowing emerging up from their sleepy roots.

It is a welcome change, and we are looking forward to much more that the Spring season brings to us.

Our children have loved being together again; learning about Spring, insects, colours and their favourite thing to play with – dinosaurs! We had enjoyed learning from each other too, and just all have fun together. We are still missing all of our friends who have yet to return back to crèche yet with us, but we
look forward to when that will be again. Hopefully very soon.

In the meantime, we hope our children at home have been enjoying the videos we have posted on our Social Media Channels. And we hope they are enjoying some of our curriculum learning at home too.

Feel free to share any activities you have been enjoying at home with us.

In this monthly newsletter, we have shared some insight into the activities from each of our rooms.

Just a additional note to say that our Baby Rooms are nearing capacity in all of our crèches for 2021 so we would like to advise any parents that might be expecting and if you require

any sibling places, please enroll as soon as possible. Application forms are available from us or you can also contact Kim from our Admissions Team on kim.jones@linkschildcare.ie.

Stay Safe.

Activities from our Baby Room

Our babies really enjoyed water play, for our Colours and Sea World theme.

They also explored different colours with paint and made a “colour wheel” were they had different colours and pegs to match them. This was a lovely way for them to practice
their fine motor skills and pincer grips too.

The children showed real interest in musical instruments, so we explored different musical sounds and we made our own tambourines.

We made some handprint flowers, and for our “flower sensory play” Elma mixed real flowers with water and we encourage our babies to catch the flowers with a spoon.

To celebrate St Valentines Day, we did some abstract art with little pieces of paper and made cards for our loved ones.

Our babies explored the topic of Springtime and Farm Animals through art, water play, story time and music and movement.

Stories from our Wonderful Wobbler & Toddler Room

For our On the Farm theme, our wobblers and toddlers explored different types of vehicles that you would typically find on the farm. We did lots of art about farm animals.

We started talking about all types of different animals, and the children took huge interest in sea animals, so throughout the week they created a board representing the sea with lots of art.

We also sang and danced to music with songs related to the topic. As well as this, we have been enjoying exploring our colours, and our sensorial bags were a great way for us to learn the words of the colours too.

The floor of our room was decorated with lots of different coloured round shapes and we use our construction blocks to sort them into the size colour groups.

To celebrate St Valentines Day, we made a lovely card with our little footprints in them so our parents can treasure as a keepsake.

This month Eric became a big brother! Congratulations to his mommy and daddy and we welcome Arnau to the world!

Preschool & Afterschool Room News

Our preschool and afterschool children enjoyed lots of activities, which included them learning about dragons, dinosaurs, insects and bugs and St Valentines Day.

Preschool 1
As Springtime is finally here, and the days are getting brighter, we are noticing more colourful Spring growth outside. We have also noticed the inserts and bugs flying around too, and as we are learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly, our children are very interested when they see other insects too.

We made the butterfly cycle of life and learned how a caterpillar turns out into a colourful butterfly. We made salt dough ladybugs figurines, painted them, and the children
brought them home.

The children were very curious and interested in how dinosaurs lived ‘in the olden days’ and then disappeared. We made a lava messy play with paint and dinosaurs and we
learned the different types of dinosaurs and which animals nowadays are an evolution of dinosaurs.

This week the children learnt that the transports could go in three different groups: air, road and water. We made lots of arts and crafts related with the topic and experiments about
how submarines draw in the water and boats do not.

We celebrate St Valentine’s Day by making for our loved one’s cards and baking delicious cupcakes.

For Carnival Day, we had so much fun, and we dressed up, danced and enjoyed lots of games.

Preschool 2 & Afterschool
Who knew that using a used box could ignite such imagination, curiosity, and learning? Our children used a shoe box to make a house with animals and all different parts of the house too, including different rooms and furniture. Our children loved doing role play with the little house. It was such fun.

As we changed seasons from Winter to Spring, we learned about all four seasons. We learned a new song about the topic “What’s your favourite season” and we did loads of arts & crafts with flowers. We also baked some sugar cookies in the shape of a flower. We explored some parts of our body, more specific our face: eyes, nose, hair, freckles and discovered that everyone of us is different, and beautiful.

Dinosaurs and lifecycle of butterfly/frog themes:

We made some dinosaur eggs with baking soda, food colouring and vinegar and Archie, our expert in dinosaurs, helps us to know the names of the dinosaurs and the difference between them.

We celebrated St Valentine’s Days by baking lovely cupcakes and we made some cards for our family, we spread the love everywhere!

Declan made us delicious pancakes for Pancake Tuesday. He is the best Chef ever! And we had so much fun for carnival with all the songs and dress up.
