If you are anything like us, you are beginning to suffer slightly from cabin fever and you are running out of ideas on things to do in the snow with the kids. It is day three after all, there are only so many snowman’s and snow-angels children can make!! We have spent a bit of time coming up with a few of the best snow activities that you could do with your little ones.

All you need for this fun activity is some empty spray bottles, some water and food colouring. Separately mix the food colouring and water into different spray bottles. Not only is this a great activity for the snow but it also a great exercise to teach your children about mixing colours. We had green, yellow, red and blue food colouring and from that we were able to make brown (by mixing green and red), purple (by mixing red and blue) orange (by mixing yellow and red) and finally light green by mixing (green and yellow).

The only step left is to go outside and enjoy making colourful masterpieces in the snow!!

Snow Art Insperation

As ours were not quite the masterpieces we had hoped for  we got some inspiration from Pinterest which we have shared here below for you.

Thanks to onelittleproject.com for the inspiration!

If you don’t have bubble mixture (like us as it doesn’t seem to last more than 10 minutes in our house!) for this one we simply mixed washing up liquid and water in a bowl. The only thing left that is needed is a straw! Once the bubbles were well mixed we wrapped up well and brought the bowl outside and placed it on the floor. We began to blow the bubbles until the bowl was overflowing and the bubbles we now resting on the floor. We sat back and watched them crystallized right before our eyes, when they were fully frozen we were able to pop them and watch them shatter.

This next one is something out of the ordinary but it definitely passed our taste test!

Snow and bubble fun

It couldn’t be easier, all you need is 4 standard kitchen ingredients and 5 minutes.

  • Granulated Sugar
  • Milk
  • Salt
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Snow

First gather all of your non snow ingredients, pop them into a mixing bowl and mix it all together, put the bowl in the freezer while you go out and gather about 6 cups of snow.

Take the bowl out of the freezer and combine the mixture and the snow.

Once the mixture and snow are fully mixed together, it is ready to serve! We even added some heart shaped sprinkles to make it that extra bit sweeter! The only step left is to ENJOY!

We decided to finish this off with two indoor activities – as Strom Emma is to take a turn sometimes going outside may not be the safest option.

Something your kids would be very familiar with by attending Links Childcare would be, making their own playdough. Like everything else so far it is simple!

  • 1 cup of flour
  • ¼ cup of salt
  • ½ cup of water
  • 6 drops of food colouring

For best results, mix together the flour and salt and in a separate bowl mix the warm water and food colouring. Slowing mix both into the larger bowl and finally kneed the play dough until the flour has fully absorbed. The best part about this activity is that you can decorate the snowman however you wish!
